Dive Bar
03:32
|

They come to watch me sing at the dive bar
Tell me I’ll go far, baby you’re a star
Then they leave me all alone
I guess I got nowhere else to go,
I’ll find a new man, make him a husband and
Make that man my home
Please wake me
When the show starts
Until then I’m smoking
Puttin’ on my makeup in the backseat of your car
But it ain’t as simple as this,
Not nearly as glamorous- it’s painful
Pouring out my heart
The music felt just like a kiss,
Rhythm makes me forget all of this, look at me
I’m singing at the dive bar
Swaying on stage from left to right,
Here again night after night
Bartender tell me,
How much do I owe?
I’ll have to pay with my soul
Cause my money’s low, but I promise
I’ll get you back after the show
please wake me
When the show’s done
They say that they love me
But when the lights go out, I still have no one
I’ll do it again next week,
A new group of souls remain discrete
Only strangers know
The tenderness of my heart
I guess I just feel incomplete,
Always trying to stay on my feet
Look at me,
I’m singing at the dive bar

Dive Bar Prelude

INT. A Dive Bar - Night
Fade in. Present. We enter to a seedy lounge. We hear: the final chords from an upright piano. Clapping overpowered by casual conversation. Beerbottles opening, glasses clinking. There is a long, mostly empty bar. Booths with cracked vinyl and smoke stained wood paneling line the establishment. The only light radiates from neons, slot machines, and a single light above the stage. The woman behind the piano traces the audience with her eyes. The woman is ANNIE KEMBLE. She puts her lips to her drink, and then to the microphone. And then- -
Annie
Thanks for coming out tonight guys, I really appreciate it. [The piano starts, as though it never stopped.] and thanks for letting me share some stories with you.
Warm, symphonic chords fill the dive bar. The soloist closes her eyes as voices hush. She comes to the dive bar to spin a tale and occasionally share the truth. She begins the song with a deep breath and the smile of an unreliable narrator.

Movie

Baby we should make a movie
Full length, feature film
The type of flick that’s kinda groovy
Push pause, wait- zoom in
Something in the way you move me
I wanna capture it
Shit belongs up on the big screen
So cinematic
I think that you & I got somethin’ that
They wanna see, you & me
Been thinkin’ lately that maybe
We should make a movie, movie, movie
I know a place to get a camera
Two blocks east off third
Driving fast I’m bleeding glamour,
Next stop Hollywood
Nominated for best picture
Red carpet, bet we win
Feels so good I’m not an actor
Red light, it’s recordin’
I think that you & I got somethin’ that
They wanna see, you & me
Been thinkin’ lately that maybe
We should make a movie, movie, movie
I think that you & I got somethin’ that
They wanna see, you & me
Been thinkin’ lately that maybe
We should make a movie, movie, movie

Before You
05:43
|
|||
I have transformed into something I’m not
You say I used to smile more, I guess I forgot
I must confess I haven’t been here for years
Losing myself is my greatest fear
You have become someone I can’t let go
The fear in my chest and your puff of smoke
Sacrificed myself to make you feel at home
But all you did was make me feel more alone
I can’t live like this anymore x2
Wish I could say it was all your fault
You made the trap but I’m the one who got caught
Even in the end I was too damn nice
I let you off with all your lies
But I know someday you’ll pay the price
I can’t live like this anymore x2
If you can’t let me go
At least just let me slip
Out of my skin you hold
So tightyly in your grip
I miss who I was before
Before you
If I’d have known back then
The pain that I know now
I would have never let
All of my walls come down
I miss who I was before
Before you

Cherries
03:26
|
|||
He’s here for the money
lonely and looking to score
Clock says eleven
Here for an hour, no more
Just want some sevens
Pop one then two 3 &4
Feels just like heaven
That’s when I walk through the door
I’m here for the money
Tell myself just one more night
I feel his eyes on me
Sevens are now out of sight
Thinks I look lovely
I think that he looks alright
He says I’m funny
Asks where I’m staying tonight
I smell like cherries
I look like wine
Body moves like liquid
Energy so divine
Are you feeling lucky?
Roll the dice just one more time
I smell like cherries
I look like wine
He woke up in encore
wallet open on the floor
No trace of me there
Just memories of the night before
I’ll be right back there
Dancing and waiting for more
But he’ll notice next time
That I’ll be wearing Dior
I smell like cherries
I look like wine
Body moves like liquid
Energy so divine
Are you feeling lucky?
Roll the dice one more time
I smell like cherries
I look like wine
I smell like cherries
I look like wine
Body moves like liquid
Energy so divine
Are you feeling lucky?
Help me with my heart tonight
I smell like cherries
I look like wine

Poets & Liars Interlude
01:01
|
|||
INT- The same dive bar, Night.
Fade in. Just a while later. The final melody is lost in a fleeting silence. Some clap, while others look around for last-minute-lovers. The bartender shouts last call. The soloist closes the lid of the piano, finishes her drink, and moves towards the same door she came through, taking her stories with her. The bartender hums as bodies move out the door, ruminating on what bedtime stories used to sound like. He turns off the neons. He locks the doors, and locks them again. He thinks of poets and liars and wonders if there is a difference. Close scene on The Dive Bar.

Hell is on earth
I am you, you are me
Doesn't matter which came first,
reflections are all we see
Fool since our birth
searching for something to believe
but it's been here,
its always been right here
I am you
you are me
What do you
what do you believe?
Black and blue
Blood and sea
rushing through you,
rushing through me
Blind to beauty
filled with rage
step now with me
into a new age
free yourself
from all that pain
You don't have to suffer
let go of your shame
I am you
you are me
What do you
what do you believe?
Black and blue
Blood and sea
rushing through you,
rushing through me
